A loan helped to buy bulk quantities of cotton.

Carmen's story

Carmen is a weaver from Mexico who specializes in Zapotec accessories. She would like to purchase bulk quantities of cotton. Carmen has been selling through NOVICA since 2012. This is her story: I was born in the weaving village of Teotitlan del Valle, I specialize in creating accessories on the traditional loom. My parents taught me how to weave when I was 15 years old, and the first piece I worked on was a rebozo shawl, which I gave to my mother as a Mother's Day gift. I've been weaving since the 1980's, and in 2002 I started my own workshop where I specialize in shawls and bedspreads. The most challenging aspect of starting on my own was having a place where I could exhibit my creations. I am very thankful and excited about this opportunity, as it will allow me to expand by business and share new creations with the world.
