Hta Ni Pat Village's story
Pictured above are the Community-Based Organization (CBO) members from Hta Ni Pat Group, named (From left to right) Theinji, Saw, Pa, Sein and Thein. The Featured Borrower, Thein, is part of a family that has farmed for generations. He has a 2-acre farm in the Delta Region of Myanmar and has been farming for over 50 years. In this area, paddy farming can only be done in the winter season. Like many farmers in this area, savings are low before harvest season. The loan will help him purchase petrol and fertilizer, rent farming equipment, and pay transportation costs. The loan is important because he and his family depend on the income generated during the harvest season for the entire year. Thein is 63 years old, married, and supports a family of four (two children), the youngest of whom is in 10th grade. Part of the family’s income goes towards funding the children's education. Thein and his family hope eventually to save enough money to buy pumping water equipment, which is much needed for his paddy fields. The CBO leaders oversee a group of 21 borrowers in their village. The fund will help the group purchase farming essentials before harvest time. Hta Ni Pat Village’s main focus is crop farming, as well as other seasonal foods. They also raise livestock such as ducks and pigs for additional income.
