Lolo Group's story
The Lolo group consists of married women who on average are 32 years old with three children. They all live in traditional families in the village of Wasolola in the Dioïla prefecture, part of the Koulikoro region (second administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They became acquainted through kinship, neighborhood ties and friendship. They are caterers, and retail merchants of grain cereals, condiments, clothing and miscellaneous items. The Lolo group of women are on their fourth group loan. To meet their customers' huge demand, they called upon Soro Yiriwaso. Group member Sadio, the person sitting in the middle, is illiterate. She is currently a caterer, and intends to buy bags of beans, cans of culinary oil and condiments from wholesalers in Dioïla. Food preparations are sold for cash in the market, to a mixed clientele. She expects to make monthly profits of 110,000 CFA francs, which will be reinvested in her activity.
