Salimatou's Group's story

Created 27 December 2010 at the inauguration of the "banc villageois" loan association, this group currently has accomplished nine cycles in the "banc villageois" program after almost five years of membership. Group members are all from the same village and share strong bonds of solidarity and mutual aid. Their main activity is small retail trade. Mrs Salimatou (standing on the far right and raising her hand), is the group's featured borrower. She is a 37-year-old married mother of seven children, five boys and two girls. She is an active retailer of ice, fresh water and ice cream, and has good experience in this field. She intends use the new loan to buy four 50-kilo bags of sugar at 22,000 francs a bag, two 25-liter basins of sorrel for ice cream at 4,000 francs a basin, three basins of baobab fruit at 2,000 francs a basin, also used in ice cream, plastic bags of fresh water, other condiments. She pays 2,500 francs for transportation fees and then sells retail in her neighborhood. In addition to making the business sustainable, she intends to use the profits to support her husband in managing family expenditures, especially regarding her children's education and health care, and eventually buy a house.
