A loan helped to repair the roofing of their house since now it's covered with cardboard and straws.

Mereme's story

Mereme is a 46-year-old villager and a mother of two now, since her 14-year-old daughter past away last year after suffering from a serious illness. “This past winter, my house’s roofing was damaged completely, and we covered one room where we decided to stay, with cardboard and some straws, in an attempt to prevent the cold and rain and snow. Yet to no avail; it was unbelievably cold here, and we must repair the roofing immediately,” she said. Her family’s source of income is agriculture/livestock. They have two dairy cows and six sheep and own 4,500 square meters of agricultural land where they have planted grapevines. They make the traditional alcoholic drink locally called raki, and they sell it to restaurants and bars in the nearby city. They also sell homemade cottage cheese and butter, grapes and baby animals.
