Mónica Yasmina's story

Canton El Carmen is important in farming. "Barragenete" type bananas, coffee, cocoa, corn, palm and a great variety of fruits are grown here. In animal husbandry, beef cattle, pork and poultry are very important. Monica lives here. She is 30 years old. She and her domestic partner have four children who are 13, 11, 8 and 3. Her partner is a daily laborer. They live in a farm they take care of. Monica works raising poultry animals in a small space they have at the farm they take care of. In season, she buys a large quantity of chickens that she raises during two or three months, which is the time needed to be sold. After this time, she sells them to some stores in her area or by weight from her house, or to merchants. She also has some short cycle crops, and she is doing very well because it is a way of earning some income from home. She will use this new loan to buy chickens, chicken feed, medicines, and to build a barn for the chickens. She has been two cycles in the Credit Group, and she is very happy because the loans have helped her very much. Her dream is to be able to save, and in this way to have her own house.
