Maravillosas Group's story

The Communal Bank “Maravillosas” is starting its ninth loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Collpani Community Center. This group consists of eight members and is led by a Board of Directors in which Sra. Pascuala serves as its president. The members of this Communal Bank engage in various businesses such as managing a neighborhood store, selling CDs, selling “salchipapas” [sausages and fried potatoes], selling clothes, operating a beauty salon, selling blankets, selling vegetables, and selling fruit.

This loan will benefit small entrepreneurs such as Sra. Pascuala. She says that she joined Pro Mujer six years ago after receiving an invitation from a friend who is also a client of the organization. Pascuala currently has a business of selling blankets. She is knowledgeable about this business because she learned the trade several years ago from a friend who was also in the same line of work. As time passed and with a small amount of capital, she decided to establish an independent business of her own.

The loan she is receiving now will be used to increase her capital for buying blankets in bulk. She will acquire her merchandise from the wholesale vendors in the city of La Paz and then sell her products from her retail location. Working in this manner enables her to generate income to support her family. Pascuala is married and has two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Pascuala said that she enjoys the savings account offered by the organization.
