A loan helped to buy ingredients, utensils, and cookware, to continue selling her popular breads, pastries, cakes and pizzas.

Bella Vista Group's story

San Pedro La Laguna, on the shores of Lake Atitlan, resting in the shadow of a volcano, has an international reputation. The Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Bella Vista” is made up of seven women from San Pedro, who have come together to apply for their second loan funded by Kiva lenders. In our first report about the group, we told the story of Julia, the president of “Bella Vista.” Julia, now in her sixth loan cycle with Friendship Bridge, continues to provide leadership and guidance to the other six members of the Trust Bank. Doña Maria, a 56-year-old grandmother, is one of the newest members of the Trust Bank. Maria joined the group to continue to expand her bakery business. She is applying for a loan to buy ingredients, utensils, and cookware, to continue selling her popular breads, pastries, cakes and pizzas. Due to her expertise and the variety of goods that Maria offers, she has been able to expand her bakery business from her small storefront. Now, Maria sells her freshly baked goods all over San Pedro to small stores, reaching a wider range of customers. With this loan, Maria will be able to maintain her growing bakery business. Maria hopes to improve the quality of her bakery as well of the quality of her life with the support of this small loan. On behalf of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Bella Vista,” Julia would like to thank Kiva for the support and belief in the group. Without the support of Kiva, Julia and her Trust Bank would be without the opportunity to create a better future for themselves and their families. Thank you, Kiva, for your continued support!
