A loan helped to purchase ducklings and high quality feed.

Kywe Chan Su Village Group's story

This community is located Kywe Chan Su Village, Myanmar Ayeyarwaddy Delta region. In this community, 5 CBO (Community Based Organization) members oversee a group of 30 village customers.

This loan will help some group members purchase both ducks and ducklings. The remaining group members will use the funds to purchase high quality feed, costing $60 for a month of feed for 100 ducks. These uses will boost villager income from more duck eggs and more revenue from duck sales.

In addition to ducks, many Kywe Chan Su villagers raise pigs, chickens, and water buffalo. Pigs are mainly a source of savings, water buffalo are used to cultivate the land, and chickens are used in a similar way as ducks. Those with arable land cultivate rice paddies and plant seasonal vegetables and fruits such as bananas and coconuts.

Pictured above are CBO members from the Kywe Chan Su Village Group, named U Maung, U Win and U Ko. First from left in the photo, U Maung is 38 years old and married with two children. In addition to his ducks, U Maung farms his crop farm and has two pigs. His wife helps him with all work. Proximity's loan will help U Maung to purchase ducklings and high quality feed that will boost his income from more duck egg production.
