A loan helped To move into horticultural farming.

Josephine's story

Josephine, an enterprising 39-year-old farmer from the Nyamira area of Kenya is a hard-working, energetic mother of six children. For the past five years she has been a farmer, gaining a lot of practical experience. Through her farming income she has assured her family of decent meals and other basic needs. Josephine is now applying for a 50,000 KES loan through Juhudi Kilimo to move into horticultural farming. Nyamira has good weather patterns and conditions that support farming activities. It has good roads and a good transportation network. With these favorable conditions, she is sure that she will be able to increase her business and reap the maximum in profits. Being a woman and accessing funds in Africa is very challenging, but Josephine feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her. She is very disciplined with her finances and hopes that through her accumulated profits she will be able to improve her living conditions and also secure the future of her children.
