Ana Delia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to purchase two cows and a pulper.
Ana Delia's story
Ana Elia has been a coffee grower for 55 years. She is 75 years old and lives with four grandchildren. Ana is in the process of converting her coffee crops from conventional to organic. She has so far paid for the conversion with her own funds, but would like to enhance the process by purchasing two cows, which would produce the raw material for solid organic fertilizer, as well as a pulper. This investment will enable Ana to improve coffee quality and production, and will require 5,000,000 pesos. Her medium- and long-term goals are to increase her production to 3000 kg of dried parchment coffee and to plant 6800 coffee plants. In terms of family, Ana would like to make improvements to her house and help her grandchildren so that they may continue to study subjects related to coffee production. The conversion of production of organic coffee is a comprehensive, independent, wholesome, balanced, and environmentally-friendly long-term process. It poses a challenge for Colombia's farmers. Ana has decided not to risk her health, nor that of her family or consumers, by continuing to use chemicals. The Peasant Farmer Federation of El Cauca is convinced about the merits of supporting these alternative efforts. A loan from Kiva symbolizes a sustainable future for their crops, their land, and their families.
