Nietaa 1 Group's story
The group Nietaa1 consists of six members who average 35 years of age and 5 children each. They live in traditional families in Diambala, Bougouni circle, region of Sikasso. This group’s activity involves buying, storing and selling cereals (millet, maize, sorghum and fonio). To meet the demand of their growing customer base, the group members joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso four years ago. This is their 4th loan cycle, and all three previous loans were correctly repaid. Maïmouna is the only woman in the group. She is the member sitting on the left in the group photo. She plans to use her loan to buy 1.5 tons of maize from growers in Diambala, Tora and surrounding areas; she will keep it stored for a few months. She sells mainly wholesale to a clientele composed of resellers from larger cities such as Bamako and Bougouni. By the end of the cycle, she hopes to earn a profit of 160,000 FCFA, which she will use to repay the loan and to reinvest in her activity.
