A loan helped to purchase ducks and high quality feed.

Aka Ta Yar Village Group's story

This community is located in Aka Ta Yar Village, of the Myanmar Ayeyarwaddy Delta region. Aka Ta Yar Village has over 500 villagers and most of the men are farmers. In Aka Ta Yar, villagers also fish, plant seasonal fruits (coconuts, bananas and betel), and raise pigs and chickens. In this community, five CBO (Community Based Organization) members oversee a group of 26 village customers (12 males, 14 females).

This loan will help some group members purchase young, less costly ducklings while providing funds until the ducks grow and lay eggs after 4 months. Other group members will use funds to buy high quality feed for ducklings ($70 per month for 100 ducklings).

Pictured above are 5 CBO members from Aka Ta Yar Village, named U Than, U Kan, U Aye, U Soe and Daw Inn. U Than, second from the right, is 40 years old and married. He farms on his ten acre crop farm. His wife plants seasonal foods and looks after the livestock. Proximity's loan will enable him to purchase ducklings and high quality feed that will increase duck egg income.
