Saikal's story

Saikal is a freshman at the American University of Central Asia, Department of Economics. Here is her story:

“My name is Saikal and I am 19. Nine years ago my parents divorced. I live with my mother and my sister. My father has another family and doesn’t keep in touch with us. My mother is such a person, who keeps the world turning. Not only was she able to raise us alone, but she also gave us an opportunity to go to the kindergarten and school. My mother is a teacher in our village and says that education promotes individual freedom and empowerment and yields important development benefits. Yet millions of children and adults remain deprived of educational opportunities, many as a result of poverty. That’s why she wanted to give us a good education and still does her best.

I studied at a simple school in the village, but had a great desire to enter one of the best universities in order to build a bright future. One year ago I was a finalist of AUCA’s full Scholarship for the one-year-study program at New Generation Academy. There were 70 students from different parts of Kyrgyzstan who, like me, came from a poor family but were lucky to win this award. It allows us to study, live, and eat for free. As a result, I understood the value of the education, which allows you to work where you want, travel where you want, and makes you confident of your bright future.

New Generation Academy made great changes in me and in my view for life. My big dream at the present is to get a degree, gain good knowledge in my sphere, and find my place in this huge world. AUCA is the place where I can get all of them, a place where I feel myself at home, a place, where I am respected by my lovely friends and brilliant teachers. I kindly ask Kiva lenders to help me with my tuition fee so that I may continue studying just as before.”
