Maa Majhigouri Group's story

Jayanti, aged 23 years, is a self-motivated, active woman entrepreneur of Muniguda village of Rayagada district of Odisha, India. She is a very hard working lady seating at the second from left of the front line in the photo with a raised hand. She resides with her husband, and a son of two years old. Jayanti has been running a vegetables and fruits business for the last four years. Her husband is also supporting the business. Initially Jayanti started this business with a small investment of her own. When Mahashakti Foundation started working in her village, she motivated other seven women entrepreneurs to form a group named “Maa Majhi Gouri” and apply for a loan for the development of their businesses. Now Jayanti’s income is 6,500 INR per month, but it is not at all sufficient to meet the house hold expenses. So for further development she will take a loan. From this loan she will purchase tomatoes, brinjals (eggplants), carrots, bananas, apples, oranges, and other vegetables and fruits. Jayanti hopes to construct a permanent cabin for her business and a good house for her family. The other seven members are doing a dairy, vegetable vending, a leaf plate business, and a fruits business.
