A loan helped to buy shea nuts for her shea butter processing business.

Bukuru Sung-Bagurugu Group's story

Fati is a 40-year-old, married woman living with her husband and three children in Bagurugu, a community in Northern Ghana. Fati is the one placing the hand on the basin of shea nuts among those squatting in the group picture. Their group is called Bukuru Sung-Bagurugu Women Association. All the members are involved in the business of processing shea nuts into shea butter. They have been in the business for the past three years. They process high premium shea butter, some of which is sold to aggregators and are exported to the European and USA markets. Fati sells the butter to many other customers in northern Ghana. The group is therefore requesting for a loan of GHS 11,900. Fiti’s share of the loan would be used to buy shea nuts for her shea butter processing business. Fati can now buy school uniforms for her children and prepare better food for the family due to the increased income from her previous loan. She hopes to keep supporting her family to have regular food to eat, to buy educational materials for her three children, and to repay this loan.
