Tejedoras 3 Group's story
When María was 6 her mother died from an illness, they were 7 siblings, her father took care of them. Couple of times her father try remarry but the selected women could not take care of the family, and they left her father. They got raised by her father. When she was 15 she married because she had many problems in her family. At the beginning of their married life they had problems but they got alone. Now she has a good marriage, and they have 6 children. María and her husband began thinking that they have to do something that provide them income, she investigated about the Chajulense Association of Women United for Life and the loans they gave to women. She got her first loan from the Association and invested in tools and equipment for making ice cream. She began making and selling ice cream with her first loan, one of the equipment she bought was an ice chest that let her and his husband sell from house to house. With her second loan she bought two wheelbarrows for carrying and selling the ice cream. Last year, with her third loan, they have to change their product; their ice cream was too artisanal, so she began buying three different flavors of ice cream, this gave a better quality for her clients. With their four credit they are thinking of opening an ice cream shop, but they have to plan and consider whether this is possible this year. María is the leader of Tejedoras Group 1, the group is composed of 6 women, and they will invest their loans in Retail and Textile activities. They are from the Ethnicity Ixil Maya. On average they have 5 children. Their average loan amount is Q 3,066.
