Gnogodemeton 1 Group's story

The ten members of the Gnogodemeton 1 group are all married women, who average 35 years of age with three children each and live in traditional families in Mina, one of the villages in Koutiala, Mali's third administrative region. They are collaborating with the microfinance institution, Soro Yiriwaso, so that they can run their market gardening activities successfully, and they are on their second loan. Diara, who is sitting in the middle of the photo, grows shallots and tomatoes. With her loan she is planning to buy seeds, inputs and equipment to farm her 0.5 hectares plot of land. Once harvested, the produce will be sold in the village and in Koutiala to a diverse customer base. She expects to make an average profit of 140,000FCFA at the end of the season, and this profit will enable her to repay her loan and cover her daily outgoings.
