A loan helped to buy materials for truck farming.

Dianou 1 Group's story

The members of the DIANOU 1 group are married women, who are on average 32 years old, have three children, and who all live in polygamous families in Bandiagara, the fifth administrative region of Mali. They are collaborating with microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to see through their truck-farming business during this end of winter harvest. They are on their second loan with the institution. The cultivated crops are essentially onions with Mrs. Fatouma Yamia, the woman seated in the middle of the photo. With her loan, she plans to buy seeds and fertilizer. The produce is sold at the villages, from Wadouba and Bandiagara, after the harvest to a clientele made up of men and women. She foresees earning a profit of 23,000 FCFA at the end of the season. This profit will allow her to help her husband with the family’s expenses, food, her children’s school fees and health, and the rest she will reinvest into her businesses.
