Tegou 6 Group's story

The members of the group TEGOU 6 are married women, who average 40 years of age and five children each. The women all live in polygamous families in Bandiagara (5th administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work for the end of this rainy season. They are on their third loan with the institution. The crop grown is essentially onions, as is the case with Ms. Djénéba, who is the woman sitting second from the right in the photo. With her loan, she intends to pay for seeds and fertilizer. After the harvest, the produce is sold to men and women customers in the village, in Ondougou, and in Bandiagara. She plans on making an average profit of 20,000 francs CFA at the end of the planting season. This profit will enable her to help out her husband in covering family expenses and to provide food, schooling, and healthcare for the children. The rest will be reinvested in her business.
