A loan helped to pay for additional poultry.

Lydia's story

Hello lenders! Meet Lydia, 34 years of age and a very hardworking and self-driven farmer, who is based in Kaptumo, a remote village in Nandi Hills. This region has harsh weather patterns, and poultry farming is the only profitable business venture that thrives. Lydia is happily married and blessed with four children. For the past 10 years she has been involved in mixed farming, and her primary source of income has been selling milk and crop farming. She passionately loves poultry farming. When asked what is most enjoyable about farming, her reply was “selling eggs.” Her biggest challenge is the lack of funds to increase her poultry farming. She is seeking a loan to buy additional poultry. Poultry farming is the only business that thrives in the Nandi Hills area, so she wants to take full advantage of the poultry business. Lydia is a member of Arise and Shine, and through the group they have received training on financial management and saving. Through the loan she will sell eggs to the local market and to her neighbors, hence improving her living conditions, and getting out of the poverty situation she is in currently. Profits from the loan will be used to repay the loan and to increase her business.
