but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

Tening's Group's story

The group was created on December 2, 2002—the same day that the banc villageois was launched. It is comprised of women who are attached to their work and who have had a very positive experience in the banc villageois system. They are all from the same village. Their main activity is small business, but they also engage in rainfed agriculture. Madame Tening (seated at right with her right hand raised) is the star borrower of the group. She is 38 years old and has two daughters. She is very involved in the development of the banc villageois. She sells food staples that she buys wholesale and resells both in her village and at the local weekly markets. She is an expert in this business as she has been doing it for seven years. With her new loan, she would like to buy: three bags of rice for 37,500 FCFA, four cartons of various types of cigarettes for 60,000 FCFA, five packages of green tea, three 50kg bags of sugar, and various cookies and candies that she will sell for retail prices. The profits will be a significant help with her children's tuition fees. They will also help her grow her flock of sheep.
