A loan helped to buy additional calves for fattening up and resale.

Mariya's story

Mariya is 52 years old and married. She and her husband are raising four children. She has the equivalent of a high school education and is involved in animal husbandry and crop farming, two activities which constitute her family's main source of income. She started in this field in 1996 with the purchase of some cattle for 10,000 som (KGS). Thanks to her very hard work, she now owns six cows and three calves, as well as a two-hectare plot of land on which she grows potatoes and corn. She makes a monthly income of 6,000 som (KGS). Mariya is the member of a group named "Nichkesai" which consists of three more people. In order to further grow her business, she has turned to Bai Tushum Bank CJSC for a loan of 100,000 som (KGS). She will use her loan to buy some calves for fattening and resale. She is planning to re-invest her earnings from this loan into further increasing her livestock headcount.
