A loan helped to purchase poultry.

Tecla's story

Tecla is a hardworking 31-year-old farmer based in Kamagut village, in the Eldoret area of Kenya. She lives with her husband of eleven years and four children on a three-acre farm in the village. She makes a living raising dairy cows and poultry. She also has a borehole where she fetches water for both domestic and agricultural use. Tecla is seeking a loan to purchase poultry. With a 30,000 KES loan, she will buy more chickens to add to the eight she already has. Her dream is to scale up her poultry business and have it as one of her main sources of income. In order to achieve this, she has partnered with other local farmers to form a group so that they can access co-guaranteed loans. Income generated from the poultry farm will enable her to repay the loan on time and she will use the additional amount to meet her family's basic needs and education costs.
