Teresa Virginia's story
The Amigas Solidarias lending group meets every two weeks in the Crucita Parrish, area of the Portoviejo settlement. This area is known for the beautiful beaches that surround this beautiful place and are well visited by local and international tourists. It’s known as “Crucita la Bella.” Teresa lives here. She is 40 years old, married, and has four children, ages 21, 19, 14, and 5. The three youngest attend university, high school, and elementary school and still live with her. Her husband works as a bus driver. Teresa is a very good mother and housewife. Besides caring for the home, she also raises chickens and has a small chicken farm at her home. She buys the chickens when they are small, keeps them for three months as free range and sells them to merchants when they are ready. She also sells to local residents. This is how she earns a living for herself and her family. She will use the money from this loan to buy chicken feed. She has been with the lending group for four years and she likes it because the loans are a great help to her. Her dream is to provide her children with the best.
