Upendo's story

This is Upendo J K.. She is a married woman with two children. She is 31 years old and her childen are 6 and 8 years old respectively. She is running a used cloth business. her husband is giving her enough support to run this business. She works in her business 10 hours a day and 6 days per week. She is capable of making a monthly profit of about 250 USD and she is requesting a loan of 500 USD in order to purchase additional stock of used cloth. She is planning to open another business. She thanks you for your support. SELFINA has taken a lead role as a pioneer of micro-credit in Tanzania through Micro-Leasing. The organization is engaged in the economic empowerment of women in Tanzania through the provision of a leasing and leaseback microfinance facility. Customs and traditions in Tanzania make it difficult for women to own land and assets, thus they are termed non-creditworthy by financial institutions. This leads to poor financial support and poor access to basic needs and services for women with low incomes. One of the primary advantages of microleasing is that is allows clients to use the equipment as collateral for future loans with SELFINA, thus enabling them to borrow larger sums in the future.
