Del Mar Group's story

The communal banking group "Del Mar" or "Of the Sea" will begin its 19th loan cycle with Pro Mujer. The group forms part of the downtown region of Collpani, and the group is made up of 12 members and is directed by a board with Martha as President. The businesses run by this communal bank are varied, including the following: Knitting sweaters, selling CDs, selling milk, selling clothing, knitting and sewing blankets, and selling fruit. The loan will be used to benefit micro-entreprenuers in the communal banking group to which Martha belongs. She indicates that she joined Pro Mujer six years ago, and that she joined based on the invitation of a friend who is a member. Currently she has a business making traditional clothing. She learned her field 13 years ago, upon marrying, since the family of her husband has long worked with needle point and they started an independent business. The loan that she is requesting will be used to increase her merchandise (via the purchase of fabric, sequins, and pearls in bulk). These will be purchased from sellers in bulk and then used to make items which are subsequently sold in her place of business. This form of work allows her to generate income to support her family, since she is married and has 5 children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes the health care area and the trainings provided by the institution. In the picture one group member is missing because she had a doctor's appointment and for that reason was not able to be in the picture. However, her husband came to the meeting to accompany the group, and he is dressed in a light brown or beige sweater.
