A loan helped To purchase a variety of saris for her business.
Goutami is 31 years old. She lives with her husband and two adorable daughters in Vivekananda Pally, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. She is a housewife and has a secondary education. Her daughters are in grade nine and grade five, respectively. Goutami's husband, 34-year-old Bidyut, is engaged in the business of selling saris. Saris are garments consisting of a length of cotton or silk elaborately draped around the body, traditionally worn by the women of India. He opened his business a few years ago and has been doing this successfully. His customer demand is increasing day by day. Being the only earning member of the family, he gives his full efforts to this business to earn a better income. He runs the business from a small shop in his house. If he can buy in greater bulk, he will be able to achieve better prices and sell in greater volumes. Now, Goutami is taking the loan from BJS (Kiva’s partner) to help her husband to buy different varieties of saris from the wholesale market to fulfill the demands of his customers. She expects a boost in her husband's earnings with the loan and her plans are to use the profit from the business for the betterment of her family members and to get ahead with the business. She wants to save money to give her daughters a better education. She is grateful to BJS and Kiva for this loan.
