Guadalupe De Senkata Group's story

The communal bank "Guadalupe of Senkata" will begin its first loan cycle with Kiva partner Pro Mujer. As part of the downtown of Senkata, the group is composed of eight members and is directed by a board of which Rosa is the President. The businesses that members run are varied, including the following: Sale of hand-knit sweaters, sale of meals like "salchipapas" (sausage and potato dish); butcher shop; sewing shop for traditional Peruvian dresses and macramé; sales of DVD's; Construction services. The loan will be used to support micro businesses like the one that Rosa runs. She notes that this is her first loan with Pro Mujer, and she joined based on the invitation from an institutional recruiter who visited her in her home. Currently she has a business making and selling sweaters. She recounts that she learned this business from a previous job, where she worked as an employee. With a bit of savings she decided to open her own independent business. The loan that she will take out is for increasing capital (purchasing wool in bulk) which she will acquire from sellers in the city of La Paz and then later use to make sweaters for sale upon request from customers. This type of work allows her to generate income to support her family, since she is single. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says that she likes the consultations, the trainings, and the loans that the organization offers.
