Sabina Matilde's story
It's a very hot day. The central market in Suchitepéquez is full of people coming and going, some buying, others selling; hope dances between the two groups. Among the crowd, we find Sabina, age 27, putting in an enormous effort to support her family. She has three children, all of whom attend the local school. She is an enterprising woman with big dreams in life. Her work is buying and selling produce, a line of work she chose because it brings in earnings for her family. She's been working in this field, which she learned from her mother, for five years. She enjoys the work, because through it she has improved the living conditions for her family, as well as her community. As a side business, she grows carrots on a piece of land near her house. She will put this loan to use buying vegetables and fertilizers to improve her crops, achieving better a better harvest and improving her sales at the community market with quality produce. She aspires to grow her business and build a house for her children, so they might enjoy an adequate quality of life.
