Tiessiri Group's story
The Tiessiri group is composed of five married women averaging 42 years of age, with four children. They live in nuclear families in the Heremakon Nord neighborhood of the town of Bougouni. They know each other as neighbors, friends, or through their work. In order to bolster their financing capacity and better manage their businesses, they have joined the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution with which they are on their 7th loan. The six prior loans have been duly repaid. The group members sell clothing, which is what Diatou does, for example, She is the one seated in front in the photo. She plans to use her loan to buy ten pieces of traditional colorful “pagnes” fabric, 20 meters of the damask-like “bazin” fabric from wholesalers in Bamako. She sells at the market and out of her home, retail for cash and on credit, to a mixed clientele. She plans to earn an average monthly benefit of 35,000 West African francs, which will be used to invest in her business and repay her loan.
