A loan helped to buy sugar and soap.
Sabougnouman Group's story
The four women of the Sabougnouman group all live in nuclear families. They average 48 years of age with five children each, and they all live in the village of Cinzana Gare in Ségou (the Republic of Mali's fourth administrative region). They got to know each other as neighbors, through relatives and marriage, and through their income-generating activities in the village. They have small trading businesses selling sugar and soap, clothing and condiments. The group members decided to collaborate with Soro Yiriwaso in order to expand their businesses and are on their 12th group loan cycle. Korotimi (who is standing second from the left in the photo) is a significant seller of sugar and soaps in the village and its surroundings. She is planning to use her loan to buy five sacks of sugar and six cartons of soaps in Cinzana Gare and Ségou. She sells her goods for cash and often on credit at the market and from home to a mixed customer base. With this loan Korotimi hopes to make an average monthly profit of 52,000FCFA, which will be used for small family expenses and to expand her business. She would like to continue collaborating with Soro Yiriwaso.
