A loan helped to buy incense.

Sewa Group's story

The SEWA group is part of the SIGUIDIA N°2 association of SANANKOROBA. It consists of married women who know one another as neighbors and through ties of kinship. They average 35 years of age and four children each. They practice various activities including the purchase and sale of incense through AMI, sitting 2nd from the left in the group photo. They live in large traditional families in BELEKAN, a district of the rural commune of SANANKOROBA, prefecture of KATI (Koulikoro region, Republic of Mali). Engaged in small trade for many years, they are in high demand for their purchase and sale of incense. In an effort to meet their customers’ increasing demand, the group members joined the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution. This is their first group loan cycle. AMI, the group’s president, is well known around SANANKOROBA and highly skilled at selling incense. She plans to use her loan to buy a large quantity of incense. She buys her stock from wholesalers in SANANKOROBA and she retails it in the same area to a mixed clientele, cash or credit. AMI hopes to earn a monthly profit of 30,000FCFA, which will allow her to repay her loan and to reinvest in her activity.
