Jose Candido's story
Sr. José is 60 years old, single, and has four children. He lives in a village that belongs to the municipality of Gracias, Lempira. He has spent his whole life working as a farmer with his family. For 15 years he has been growing coffee, his main source of income. It is the crop best-suited for the region so it is widely grown. He sells the beans to a coffee mill located near the municipality. José has decided to ask for a second loan of 25,000 lempiras from the institution so he can buy manure and leaf fertilizer for the coffee plants, and also pay for workers to help plant the coffee and weed the fields. He expects the loan money will help him produce a better harvest and thus increase his income. In the future José would like to buy land so he can grow more coffee and improve his standard of living.
