Maritza Rosario's story
Maritza belongs to the cooperative bank “Mujeres de Grandes Retos” (“Women of Great Challenges”), in the district and province of Huaraz, in the Ancash department. Maritza is 34 years old and has three children with her partner who is a teacher. Her greatest achievement is being independent and generating her own income. She tells us that her biggest difficulty has been having a child with an ear infirmity which requires costly treatment. For this reason, what the father earns is not enough for all the expenses, and she started to work a year ago selling food and beverages as well as providing photocopy and printing services. She has managed to bid on a cafeteria lease within a school, the parochial school Santa Rosa de Viterbo. She comments that she started with 0.50 soles, and has to date invested approximately 2,500.00 soles into her products. Things are going well and, fortunately, she holds the lease for two years at which time she will be able to renew the term. One problem is that, on vacation days, she won’t be able to work in her business. With this loan of 2,500.00 soles, to be repaid in four installments, she will invest in the purchase of a printer and promotional commemorations. It is very important to Maritza to work to get ahead and support her family.
