Socorro's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to pay for the inventory costs of new supplies for her business.
After coming to the U.S. in 1996, Socorro made her way to Dallas, Texas. Upon arrival, she immediately began looking for work. Referred by a friend, she started working in the housekeeping department at a Toni & Guy hair salon. “I started at Toni & Guy sweeping the floors, and from that moment, my life has never been the same,” Socorro said. “This was a very defining moment in my life.” In 2005, the manager of the Toni & Guy opened her own salon. When she left the salon, the manager took Socorro to come work for her. The other owners of the newly opened salon sent Socorro to cosmetology school, giving her a fresh start in the field. “I learned everything I could from everyone about the business,” Socorro said. “I was so grateful that someone believed in me and my potential.” Socorro worked for the new salon until she decided it was time to open her own business. In 2012, she opened Coco’s Hairstyles. She has been successfully operating for two years. The majority of her clients are repeat clients and referrals from other clients. Socorro came to Accion Texas Inc. to help fund her inventory costs. She needs to purchase more specialty products for her clients. She believes this will help her business to continue to grow. “I am so grateful to everyone who helped me get to where I am today,” Socorro said.
