Franklin Ramón's story

Franklin Ramón, age 29, is married and has a school age daughter. He lives in the El Tamarindo region in a settlement that is 30 kilometers from the El Sauce municipality west of León. He is studying for a degree in mathematics on Saturdays. On Mondays through Fridays he works as a high school teacher at the Las Mojarras school. This is an inland community that is very far from the city. It is surrounded by two large rivers that swell during the winter. This leaves the inhabitants stranded because the access bridge is in bad shape. He has been in this profession for four years, and it allows him to bring home the daily bread. At this time Franklin needs a loan to improve his wife’s health. She has problems, which give her strong headaches. This is a result of an accident that she had years ago. The insurance does not cover the cost of the medication prescribed because the pills are very expensive. That is the reason that he came to the CEPRODEL office, trusting that the Kiva lenders will help him by granting this loan to buy medicine, have medical exams, and electroencephalograms. With his salary, he cannot cover these high costs.
