Eloisa De Las Mercedes's story

In Los Rosales in the city of Portoviejo, the members of the “Nueva Integración” (New Integration) loan group meet every 15 days. This is a place very rich in vegetation and is one in which many people work in agriculture and in selling products. Eloisa also lives there. She is 52 years old, is in a common-law marriage, and has 8 children from that relationship. The youngest child is 17 years old and is in high school; two of the children still live in her house. Her husband works in the local government in the city. Eloisa is a very determined woman who has always liked working to get ahead. She sells all types of clothing door to door. She also sells in her house, where her clients come. In addition, she makes food and sandwiches for parties or social engagements. She does this based on orders that her clients give her in advance. She works everyday for hours since she repays the loan and earns by the week. She has done this work for more than 5 years, and she uses what she earns from this for her family’s wellbeing. This loan will be used to buy all types of clothing and supplies to prepare food. She has been with the loan group since it began, and she likes it because the loans help her a lot. Her dreams are to continue in her business.
