Banco Mujer Bekuö Group's story
Doris is one of the members of the Mujer Bekuö communal bank, a group of indigenous women from the Talamanca area. She and the 3 other members will invest the loan in agricultural work. She is 37 years old and is married with 2 children, who are both at secondary school. She comes from a family of farmers who, like most of the families in the Native Reserve, work the land to provide for their household. Doris and her husband grow bananas and by doing this they are able to cover the household costs and their children's schooling. This is her fifth loan cycle. The previous loans helped her to maintain her crops and to improve the quality of her harvests in order to compete in an ever more demanding market and sell her bananas at a better price. The loan is a new opportunity to invest in supplies such as seed, fertilizers, insecticides, bags and boxes for packing the produce. Doris is a very hard-working and responsible woman, who knows that with a lot of work and commitment she will be able to get on in life, improve herself, and keep supporting her children in their education, since they are her main source of pride.
