Filomena is a is a member with a strong path in Fundación Mujer. She is 70 years old, a native of Costa Rica, the head of her household, and currently lives with only her youngest son. Both of them work on a their own small farm where they plant plantains. Her age does not slow her down in her work, and she keeps striving to improve their quality of life, and the community's as well. She is a very active woman and a community leader. She belongs to the Asociación de Mujeres Indígenas de Talamanca [Native Women's Association of Talamanca], which works to obtain favorable conditions for the village where agriculture is the main source of income. For her, agriculture is a form of self-employment that helps her face her basic needs. The loans have allowed her to strengthen her business and move her family ahead through the years. This new loan will be used to buy seeds, fertilizer, insecticide, compost, bags, and other inputs, and will help increase production of her crops. The group is made up of 4 other members that will also be investing in agricultural activities.
