Emmie's story

Emmie is a single mother of three children from the Mt Darwin District of Zimbabwe. She has been successfully running a poultry project for over 18 months at her homestead. She sells chickens to the local community, with the assistance of her family. Emmie started the business with batches of 25 broiler birds every 6 weeks, and she has increased her capacity to 50. Additionally, Emmie is a Camfed Learner Guide volunteer who helps students reach their goals. With the loan from Kiva, Emmie intends to make bulk purchases of chicks, feed, and vaccines to increase her production capacity and boost her profits. With the additional profits, she hopes to expand her business. She will be able to keep hens that lay eggs that she can sell to her customers. Emmie wants to work very hard in her business to support her family and change their living conditions.
