Hermilo Victor's story
Hermilo Victor is 26 and a native of a small town called Tayales in Santo Tomás District. Santo Tomás is part of Cutervo Province in the Cajamarca Region in the northern Peruvian sierra. Hermilio Victor now lives with his parents in a sturdy, two-story home with running water that the family built themselves in the village of Salluc. Hermilio Victor is a well-known, liked, and respected member of his community. He has for the past six years earned a living growing coffee on a 1.5-hectare tract of land in Tayales. Three years ago, Hermilio Victor planted a disease-resistant variety of coffee plant, Catimor, and these plants are now in their second year of production. Hermilio Victor also raises small animals (hens, guinea pigs, pigs, and others), and a variety of crops besides coffee, including corn, lentils, yucca, and bananas. Hermilio Victor has excellent personal and business references. He is applying for a loan for the maintenance of his coffee crop so that he can ensure a strong harvest in 2015. Hermilio Victor hopes to boost sales and income so that he can raise his family's quality of life.
