Maa Bhagabati Group's story

Nalini is the leader of a group that lives in Bhagabati Pada of Sagarpali village of Tarbha in the district of Subarnapur, Odisha, India. She is a married woman of 22 years. She has a small family comprised of four members: her husband, herself, one son, and one daughter, aged 3 and 10 years respectively. The member sitting first from left with raised hand on the first row is Nalini. Like most families in the locality she and her husband are doing weaving work in their house and prepare saris and sell them in the market. Her husband helps her in procuring thread from the nearby market. This is the first loan she wants to take. To improve her living condition and earn some extra income, she wants to avail a loan from Mahashakti Foundation. To avail the loan, she makes a group of 14 women of her locality but later on one member(sitting in the 2nd row, 1st from right wearing blue sari) did not want to avail the loan. So, rest 13 members constituted a group and avail loan.At present her monthly income is INR 2,700 from her business and INR 2,300 from daily labour which comes to INR 5,000 which is not sufficient to lead a better life. So, she wants to take a loan to purchase bulk quantity of yarn for preparation of saris. She has a cherished dream to increase her productivity and educate her children in school. The other 12 members are Sabitri, Jajnaseni, Banita, Kumari, Gurubari, Sunaphula, Manjulata, Jashabanti, Sandhyarani, Sebati, Ratnabati, and Sebati doing separate businesses.
