Allen Wanyana’s Group's story
Allen is a leader of a 5-member group. She is a 45-year-old married mother of four children aged between 18 and 26 years. One child goes to school. Allen takes care of her elderly parents She resides in and owns a four-room house where she lives with five people. They have electricity and piped water at home. The family gets three meals a day, Allen works in a semiurban area, which is in the outskirts of Kampala, operating a retail shop. She uses public transport to and from work. Allen buys her products from Owino market, one of the busiest markets in Kampala city. She sells to an average of 20 customers a day and works seven days a week. Allen has been in this business for five years, working six days a week. She is faced with a challenge of competition and transportation. She has been with MCDT for five years working all this time with the same group members and wants to use this loan to have permanent place for her business. She aspires to build a bigger shop and sell wholesale.
