Isabel's story

Isabel is a 58-year-old woman. She is a widow and has one son. Her business is the sale of traditional food. She is enterprising, friendly, sensitive, sincere, generous, understanding, patient, supportive, strong, responsible, and very hardworking, as well as being a good listener and a good mother. She does her work in Sacaba, which is situated in the center of the country, located in the valley of the same name in the middle of the Andes mountain range. It is the capital of the department of Cochabamba and is considered to be the capital of the valleys of Bolivia. It is located on fertile, productive land 2,570 meters above sea level, surrounded by fields of crops and valuable pre-Incan ruins. It maintains its colonial appearance and the customs passed down by its indigenous forefathers. Isabel has dark skin and long, braided, black hair. Her mother tongue is Quechua, which she combines with Spanish according to her business needs. Her business is the sale of food, namely traditional regional dishes. She is famous for her guinea pig meat delicacies, "lambreado de conejo" [fried, breaded guinea pig], "chicharrones de cerdo" [pork ribs boiled and cooked in fat], "charquekan" [a dried beef or llama meat dish], "puchero" [a chickpea and meat stew], "lawas" [thick, creamy soups], "lluspichi" [thick wheat soup], "chairo" [vegetable beef stew], "carbonada de zapallo" [squash stew], "ají de arvejas" [peas in chili pepper sauce], and "habas peitu" [a lima bean dish], in addition to the duck and flank steak dishes. Everything is accompanied by chicha, an alcoholic fermented-corn-based drink. She dreams of expanding her business by purchasing a freezer and a stove, so that she can help her son to pay his higher education expenses. This is why Isabel is requesting a loan for the purchase of a freezer and a stove in order to use the earnings to help her son finish his higher education.
