Zainab's story

Zainab is a model of a spirit and determination. Although her career as a beautician started as a hobby, she developed her skills over the course of 11 years through hard work and diligent studying. Three years ago, she decided to take her career one step further and opened her own beauty salon with the support of her family. A 35 year old mother of three handicapped children, Zainab overcame many obstacles to get to where she is today. In a country where women entrepreneurs are not always perceived positively, Zainab remained persistent and has even created job opportunities for three more women in her community. She expects this number to increase as her business continues to grow. She is proud of her work and attributes much of her success to patience, time management, and organizational skills. Providing her children with the care they need is what motivates her to continue developing her business. Zainab’s flourishing business and her willingness to cultivate her occupational skills qualified her to participate in the WLIFT program and take a SME loan from Relief International Microfinance Iraq in the amount of 8,000 USD. With the loan, Zainab plans to expand her business further, by purchasing additional equipment, tools, and cosmetics.
