25 De Octubre Group's story

The communal bank "25 DE OCTUBRE" will begin its seventh Pro Mujer loan cycle at the Cascada Social Center. The group has nine members and Basilia is the secretary of its board of directors. The members are involved in different businesses including hot dog sales, blanket weaving, jewelry sales, shoe manufacture, cereal sales, clothing sales, transportation service, natural product sales and chicken sales. The loan they are taking out will benefit small business owners including Basilia. She has been a member of Pro Mujer for two years and joined by invitation through a friend who belongs to the institution. Basilia has a sewing business and sells clothing. She started her business three years ago on her own initiative upon observing other people who were working in the same business. The loan she is requesting now is to increase her work capital and buy fabric wholesale from sellers in the city of El Alto. Later she will sell her products at her sales stall. Through her work she is able to generate resources to support her family. She is married and has three children. When asked what it is about Pro Mujer that she likes, she says it is the loans, the health area and the training offered by the institution.
