A loan helped buy groceries at wholesale.

Jerusalen De Viacha Group's story

The community bank "Jerusalen de Viacha" will begin its fifth term with Pro Mujer as part of the Cascada regional office. It is comprised of eight members and is run by a board of directors with Alicia as the president. The members run a wide variety of businesses, including film services, food sales, fruit sales, blanket weaving, store decorating, and snack sales. This loan will benefit all of the small businesses in Alice's group. She joined Pro Mujer two years ago at the invitation of a friend who is a member of the institution. She currently has a business selling food. She started the business on her own four years ago upon seeing how well this type of business was doing in the market. She will use this loan to increase her capital by purchasing groceries at wholesale from the markets in the city of El Alto. She will later sell her food at her own stall. This work lets her generate enough income to support her family, as she is married and has a child. When asked what she likes best about Pro Mujer, she said she likes the health services and the training that the institution provides. One member is not present in the image above; she had to leave for her work on an urgent matter.
