A loan helped buy two sewing machines and expand her production.
Bertha Ines's story
Bertha, age 36, lives with her husband and her 6-year-old son. When she was 16 years old, she started to work in the sewing business. She started with a cousin who had a large business and she was put in charge of finalizing and inspecting the garments. When she turned 18, she joined the business where she worked for four years. About five years ago, with help from a brother, Bertha went independent and opened her own shop. A little after that, her brother got out of the business because sales were very low. But Bertha, out of necessity and through her faith, continued with it in the hopes that sales would increase. She began to take contracts from third parties, and now she is able to provide direct employment to three people. This business is how she's earned income to sustain her family. With the loan she is requesting, she wants to change two machines. She will buy a finishing serger and a covering machine with the goal of providing her customer with a well crafted, well finished garment. This way, she'll expand her contracts and earn greater income, on her way to achieving her dream of having her own brand and a line of undergarments and ladies' blouses and of providing employment to other people. In addition, she will be able to provide well being and quality of life to her family and a good education to her children.
