Belle-Dame Group's story
The Belle-dame group is largely made up of monogamous women. On average, they are 34 years old and have 2 children. They all live in Djicoroni, one of the neighborhoods of Bamako, and know one another through neighborhood ties. The group members run small businesses selling hair extensions, clothing, and a gas station. With the goal of increasing their business funds, the group members decided to work with Soro Yiriwaso and are on their fourth group loan cycle. Ms. Mama (the woman at the extreme left of the photo) has a great reputation in the sale of hair extensions of various quality. She expects to use her loan to buy 80 packs of hair extensions in Bamako. The resale takes place at retail in Djicoroni to a clientele made up of women. With this loan, Ms. Mama hopes to make an average monthly profit of 150,000 francs CFA which will be used to reinvest in her business. Her objective through her relationship with Soro Yiriwaso is to buy a plot of land to use for housing.
